George Hamilton Sumpter, Jr.

As this newsletter was going to publication, news was received of the passing of Cousin George (G.H.) Sumpter, Jr. Cousin G. H. passed away on July 30, 2008 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was 84.
Born June 14, 1924 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late George Hamilton Sumpter and Alice Amanda (Davis) Sumpter. He was a retired bookkeeper, a member of Leesville Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Octavia, a son, George H. Sumpter III, a daughter, Amanda Shirley and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Byrd Sumpter, and one sister, Virginia Sumpter Lawson. G.H.was Bill Lawson's brother-in-law and cousin. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. at Leesville Road Baptist Church. He was buried in Forest Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
