Addison Davies
The 8th grandchild of "Old Nick" Davies
(the only grandchild with no known descendants)
Compiled by Dr. James David Boyle
Addison Davies, son of Henry Landon Davies and
Lucy Whiting Clayton, was born in Bedford Co, Virginia 1789.
He married his niece Elizabeth Ann Coleman about 1814/6. Early says
they had 2 children who died as infants. There is no other mention of
these, and if they existed they must have died before the 1817 date of
his will.
Elizabeth was born about 1795. She was the daughter of Capt. Robert
Lindsay Coleman and Mary Thweat Manson.
He made a will in Lynchburg, Campbell Co, Virginia, 8 May 1817, in
which he calls his wife "Eliza Ann Davies". He mentions his siblings:
Howell Davies, Mary T. Coleman (and her husband, Robert L.), and Mrs.
Meriwether. His niece, Lucy Henry Landonia Cobbs, and his nephews,
Emmet J. and Robert Emmet Manson, are also included. He does not speak
of any children.
Many genealogies mistakenly call Mary T. Coleman his
wife, but she was his half-sister (from his mother's first marraige) and also his
mother-in-law.
Addison died May 1817 in Lynchburg, Campbell Co,
Virginia, at 27 years of age. Addison's will was probated in
Lynchburg, Campbell Co, Virginia, 5 June 1817 (Corp. Courthouse
Minutes, Book A, page 7).
After Addison's death, Elizabeth married Dr. Paul Carrington
Venable in Bedford Co, Virginia, 17 January 1821. Nathaniel J.
Manson was the Surety. Elizabeth died 6 September 1822 in Bedford Co,
Virginia, at 27 years of age.
