Dr. Howell Davies

Dr. Howell Davies, son of Henry Landon Davies, Gent and Lucy Whiting Clayton, was born in Bedford Co, VA 20 August 1795. Howell died after 1850 in Lynchburg, VA.

He married twice. He married Harriet Godfrey in Lynchburg, VA, 22 July 1818. Harriet was born in Harrisburg, Dauphin Co, PA. Harriet died 14 September 1820 in Lynchburg, VA. He married Abbey Willing Byrd in Forest, Bedford Co, VA, 1 October 1822. Abbey was born in VA circa 1800. Her birth year is from Campbell Co Census records. She was a lineal descendant of the Byrds of Westover, according to Nowlin. Abbey was the daughter of Francis Otway Byrd and Ursula Anna Mumford.

First, she married Philip Whitehead Jackson in Lynchburg, VA, 9 November 1815. Abbey died April 1852 in Lynchburg, VA, at 51 years of age. Her body was interred 19 April 1852 in Lynchburg, VA, Presbyterian Cemetery. Abbey was listed as a household member living with Dr. Howell Davies on the 1850 Census in Lynchburg, VA.

Howell was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Lynchburg, VA. His real estate was worth $1300 and his occupation was "physican", in 1850. He graduated from Philadelphia Medical College and for many years he ran a pharmacy in Lynchburg.

Dr. Howell Davies had four children, two with each wife.
