Landon Brooke Davies, Jr.

Brooke was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and attended St. Paul's School, where he enjoyed sports, played varsity lacrosse, and graduated first in his class of 36 boys.

For 6 weeks each summer, he went to Camp Gunston on the Eastern Shore - 4 years as a camper and 5 more as a counsellor.

He attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, where he continued playing lacrosse, and graduated in 1961 with a major in Psychology, after transferring from Engineering.

He then became a math teacher in Baltimore County Schools and also coached basketball and lacrosse in the junior-high rec leagues.

He also enjoyed spectator sports - he was a Baltimore Colts season ticket holder - and has been an Oriole fan since the team moved to Baltimore in 1954.

In 1966, he married Eddi, who was also a teacher, and together they became involved in youth ministry with their church, Central Presbyterian in Towson, and later with Youth for Christ.

They have remained active at Central Pres, where Brooke has served as a Sunday School Teacher and an Elder.

They spent one academic year (1969-70) in Tallahassee, Florida, where Brooke earned a Masters degree as a member the National Science Foundation Institute for Math Teachers at Florida State.

They also worked for three summers at the Silver Bay Association, a YMCA conference center on Lake George in upstate N.Y.

Then, after they had been married for almost 10 years, they finally became parents - Landon joined the ranks of Davies descendents, followed two years later by Mary Margaret.

As the kids grew older, Brooke became involved in many of their activities, including coaching their basketball and lacrosse teams.

When computers became available in the schools in the mid-1980s, Brooke became very involved in programming activities for use with his classes, which led to publishing educational software.

In 1989, he retired from teaching and began working as a software engineer. In 1990, he completed his course work for a Masters degree in Computer Science at Loyola College of Maryland.

In his second career, Brooke worked on four different projects for four different companies, including the last eight years on the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program with Northrop Grumman in Baltimore.

He retired again in 2005 and relocated to Charleston, South Carolina.
