The reunion began with registration and a continental breakfast, followed by announcements by Bob Chope, who organized the event. Brooke Davies briefly described this Web site and enlisted the aid of John and Lizz Dewey as "official photographers".
The first presentation was by Dave Boyle, the Davies Family genealogy expert. Using maps of Virginia and the United States, plus data compiled from his extensive research, Dr. Boyle showed the spread of Davies descendants from the Lynchburg area throughout the country (1800-2000).
The second speaker was a "long lost family member", "Old Nick" himself! Clad in colonial costume, complete with a handsome wig, Bob Chope presented "his autobiography", spiced with wry observations from an 18th-century perspective.
After lunch, the group gathered for a photo session. Many of these shots are in the "Photo Gallery" on the right. Then everyone drove north to Amherst County and toured one of the many old Davies homes in the area, the 200-year old house built by Arthur Beverly Davies.
The day ended with an excellent buffet banquet back at the hotel.

The second day of the reunion also began with continental breakfast, followed by time for family members to share and exchange information.
The next speaker was Megan Wallace, Director of the Amherst County Museum and Historical Society. She presented a brief history of the county, beginning with the first English settlers and the development of large tobacco plantations such as Pebbleton. She also provided some very helpful hints for storing and preserving old documents.
The final speaker was Clyde Davies, who presented an overview of Davies and Clayton research in England by cousin Philip Ballard, using a video of his trip to England showing Davies sites there. The video also included a tour of Pebbleton during the 1998 Davies Reunion.
The 2001 Davies Reunion concluded with a return to Amherst, where the entire group was treated to an outstanding luncheon at the home of Cousin Paul Wailes.
