Davies of Pebbleton Privacy Policy
We are attemping to maintain a reasonable balance between protecting the privacy of our known family members and keeping this site open to people searching for us. Therefore, we have decided to post two versions of the Davies Family Tree, one password protected and the other open to all. Some of the other pages are also closed to internet "surfers", because thry contain information about living family members. We hope that this privacy policy will make family members less hesitant to submit information to us. Our goal is to increase the number of contributors, while we continue to connect with "new cousins", expand the Tree, and learn more about our history.
In recent years, people have become concerned about "identity theft". In Privacy and the Family Home Page, an excellent article posted on Genealogy.com, Maureen Taylor writes:
"Let's start with a reassurance. At this time, no case of identity fraud has been linked to genealogy content. The majority of the documented cases of identity theft are related to criminals gaining access through regular mail to credit cards and social security numbers. However, just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't. Genealogists need to exercise some common sense when it comes to sharing and posting information online. Anyone can obtain a driver's license if they have a birth certificate and all you need to obtain a birth certificate is a name and a birth date. Yes, some of this information is already available on the Internet, but why make it easy for someone by posting everything thieves need to know on your Web site."

Identity theft is rare, but many people are increasingly annoyed by aggresive advertising. This is not a commercial site. We accept no advertising. We do not collect email addresses for spammers, snail mail addresses for junk mailers, or phone numbers for telemarketers. We don't need your checking account or credit card numbers, because we are not trying to sell you anything. When you visit our site, we do not give you "cookies" or spyware.
This site is hosted by Lunarpages. When we post private information in a password protected area of the site, how secure is it? The host server will block a hacker's computer if it receives multiple invalid login attempts from the same user. Can information be intercepted by a third party during transmission? Please read the LunarPages Security Statement.
Our policy for protecting the privacy of living family members is as follows:
1) Only one email address is posted on this site. We do not expose any others to spammers.
2) Email messages may be forwarded or copied to other family members.
3) Birth and wedding dates are replaced by blank spaces in the Open Tree.
4) The Closed Tree contains all known dates, but it is password protected.
5) News items in the Davies Family Events are now divided into open and closed pages.
6) Biographies of living people are also password protected.
