Marriage Note: Source:    p.209

Marriage Note:    Charles is sometimes said to have married twice: a Frances Armistead
and a Mary Frances McCulloch. The second wife, McCulloch, can not be
confirmed, and only the marriage to Mary Florence Armistead, shown
here, can be found. This marriage was performed by the Rev. W. H.
Pendleton. G. Cook finds information that the marriage was at Hat
Creek Church at Brookneal, not at St. Stephens Church, although
Patterson, [IT:St. Stephen's, Bedford:IT], p.p.209, lists the marriage
as present in its Parish records. St. Stephens Church records
(Patterson, [IT:St. Stephen's, Bedford:IT], p.223) refer to his wife
and their 7 children as follows: "Mother and 7 children baptised at
home (Clay's Mill), the father refusing to bring them to church for
that purpose. The children have been sadly neglected, several of the
larger boys bearing no Christian name until baptized".
