Birth Note: She was the daughter of Col. Philip Payne (Revolutionary War Militia
officer) and Elizabeth Spotswood Dandridge. The Tamerlane Davies
Family Bible says on one page that she was born 29 August 1784, the
year being somewhat scratched over. Down below on that page, in very
large writing, the date is given as 29 August 1770, obviously written
long after the fact. Thus the year of birth is not certain.

Event: Type: census 1820
Event: Type: resided
Date: 1821
Place: ,Amherst Co, Virginia
Note: He received 583 acres on Hunting Creek from his father's estate but
probably never lived there. He built a large brick house still
standing (1962) at Amherst Co. Court House, called "Edge Hill".
Murals were painted on the walls and so much money was spent that it
was called "Arthur's Folly". It was bought eventually by Jesse
Higgenbotham of Richmond, who left it on his death as a Masonic
school, "Higgenbotham's Academy". Mayo Davies (Arthur's younger
brother) was the principal of the Academy part of the time. In 1962
it was owned by Beverly Pace's husband, Mr. Kubik.
