Birth Note:    He was born in New Orleans and moved with his family to Texas before
the age of 8. He was 9 years of age when his father died, and he had
to leave the 3rd grade to work in his mother's grocery store in
partial support of his family and never returned to school.

Episcopal Church was organized, he was one of 6 elected to the Vestry.
In 1883 he was elected Mayor of Victoria. He was often called by the
courtesy title of "Colonel".
