Birth Note:    His parents were William Alexander and Sarah Floyd Powell. Charles
descends from Charles Irving of Bonshaw, through his mother's side.
"Monmouth Hall", the family residence, burned in 1897, and was
replaced (1897-1977) by a turn-of-the-century farm house named
"Retirement". The 1900 Census gives his birth as September 1843.
