Birth Note:    As, according to the 1820 Census, there were only 3 sons of Francis
living in 1820 (Charles, William and John Nicholas, whose birth years
are known to be before 1820), the unknown birth year of Nicholas had
to be after August 1820.

Individual Note:
     He sailed for California and was never heard from again, the ship
having perished by fire.

Birth Note:    His tombstone gives his birth year as 1806, while all 4 Censuses give
an age compatible with a birth year of 1816. His tombstone gives his
middle initial resembling an "L", as his descendants recall, while the
Censuses give it as "M". His name is given as "Davis" in all of the
Censuses.
