     Note:   He applied for a Confederate Pension from Virginia at age 86, because
of the infirmities of age.

Burial:   

Birth Note:    He was named for his uncle Arthur, who was Clerk of the Amherst Co
Court House. He was educated at Emory and Henry College and was a
good Latin scholar. Arthur taught school as a young man and was a
vestryman in Lexington Parish Church. He listed his occupation as
"farmer" at the time of his marriage.
